Welcome
September is designated as Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month.
What an apropos time to launch Living With Gynecologic Cancer — a paid subscription-only weekly newsletter for women newly diagnosed with gynecologic cancer or facing a recurrence.
Why should you subscribe? After all, there’s plenty of gynecologic cancer resources out there. What sets this newsletter apart from the rest is that it’s written by a freelance health journalist and former healthcare professional who’s been there, done that and has the battle scars to prove it just for YOU.
Ten years ago in 2014 I heard those three small — but life-changing — words that no woman wants to hear: You Have Cancer. I was diagnosed with Stage 1A endometrioid adenocarcinoma of the uterus and synchronous bilateral endometrioid Stage 1C ovarian cancers with focal clear cell component. I know what you’re going through. I’ve walked in your shoes. I know you’re scared and you want answers and I’m here to ease your fears and to let you know you’re not alone. I UNDERSTAND.
I’ve spent the past 10 years advocating for and writing about gynecologic cancer. I’ve served as a consumer reviewer with the Department of Defense Ovarian Cancer Research Program where I sat on scientific review panels. I’m a patient advocate with the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) and each year I participate in fly-in day where I meet with elected officials and congressional staffers to discuss initiatives that are important to gynecologic oncologists and the patients they serve. I’m a presenter with a local Survivors Teaching Students group.
I’ve met and lost many wonderful women on this jouney.
Each week Living With Gynecologic Cancer will bring you the latest news in the gynecologic cancer space, news about clinical trials, profiles of women like you who are going through their own gynecologic cancer journey, answers to your questions and so much more.
But newsletters don’t exist in a vacuum. I want this to be a collaborative endeavor between you and me. I invite you to send me your questions ([email protected]) and I’ll answer them. Let me know what you like, what you don’t like, what you’d like to see. This is a living, breathing newsletter and each week I will bring you something different. I want this to be your go-to resource.
So, welcome, and thank you for subscribing to Living With Gynecologic Cancer.
